Nintendo DS Lite: Advantages Of Getting One Over The Nintendo 3DS

The announcement of the Nintendo 3DS at the E3 2010 was without a doubt one of the most surprising of the event. The introduction of true stereoscopic 3D gameplay in a handheld device without the need of special glasses was the revolutionary idea unveiled by Nintendo on June of that year, and after its release in Japan, America, Europe and Australia, is now available for all of us to use and play with. Lots of gamers and Nintendo fans want eagerly to feel the new gameplay experience this system has to offer; however, given the $249.99 launch price tag, the ok-but-not-really-that-awesome collection of launch titles, and its short battery life (three and a half hours of gameplay average), makes one wonder if it is wise to invest in this system right away and play 3D games NOW, or wait until the second model of the system is developed (just like it happened with the original DS). A third option is investing on a different system, like a PSP GO or a previous iteration of the Nintendo DS line; but, is it worth doing it at the expense of not having true 3D gameplay? Let's analyze some facts:

Both the 3DS and the DSi offer capabilities not present in the previous DS models. To name a few: browsing the Internet through the Opera browser, being able to buy and download special games (DSiWare/3DSWare) through the Nintendo eShop, the option of creating Miis, upgrading the firmware of the device and even reproduce certain kind of multimedia formats from an SD card. They also count with built-in VGA digital cameras which point to the user and to the front of the handheld, which is not a very useful feature in the DSi (the quality of the pictures it takes is very low), but is an essential feature on the 3DS. The user camera on the 3D handheld is what recognizes the position of one's eyes and creates the 3D effects accordingly; also, the two cameras in the lid of the console are capable of taking pictures in 3D and can also integrate what they capture into "augmented reality" mini-games. Also, in addition to the features that came with the DSi, the Nintendo 3DS has full backward compatibility with DS games, an activity log, and even includes the service of Virtual Console, which allows you to buy "Nintendo Points", and redeem them for Virtual versions of Game Boy Pocket titles, Sega Game Gear titles, among others.

As you can see, both the DSi and the 3DS offer a great array of attractive features; however, these are seldom used in general. If you really don't care about browsing the web from your portable (that's what your laptop is for!), downloading content, taking photos, etc., and all you want is just to play some games, then the direct successor of the original Nintendo DS, the DS Lite, could be an excellent alternative for you.

Aside from the stereoscopic 3D gameplay, the DS Lite actually has a number of advantages over the 3DS: First, it has a much longer battery life, which lasts from 8 to 10 hours of continuous gameplay. It is region free, which means that you can buy an American console and play Japanese or European games in it without trouble. Also, it comes with the Game Boy Advance (GBA) slot; if you happen to own any GBA cartdridges you can play them on your DS Lite (only in single player mode), or use it in conjunction with specific DS titles in order to unlock special bonuses. Also, certain DS games come with accessories that make use of the GBA slot (like Guitar Hero: On Tour); these titles can't be played from the DSi onwards. Finally, the DS Lite is slightly lighter than the 3DS.

The Nintendo 3DS might be packed with features; however, if you are more of a casual gamer and use your handheld for its main purpose only, which is to play games (not Internet, Miis, eShop, etc), I would recommend you get the Nintendo DS Lite instead, at least until the second model of the 3DS is released. Not only it costs less, but the original library of DS games is HUGE, along with the large collection of GBA titles (which nowdays are pretty cheap) you can get for it. And if you ever want to know how playing in true 3D is like... you can always visit your nearest game shop and test the 3DS out!

As the original DS motto goes: "touching is good"... even if it is not in stereoscopic 3D. Happy gaming!

The Most Anticipated Game Of 2011 Is The Action RPG Mass Effect 3

Statements similar to the title can be found all over the internet. Especially if someone is a gamer and he likes hanging out in gaming forums, or he likes to read video game magazines. They all say the same thing again and again AND again. Whether they are trying really bad to advertise the game or they really believe that it is going to be really good.

Statements like the title are way too bold and someone should be careful when and where to say those. By saying such comments you have to be absolutely sure that this game WILL be if not the best then one of the best. Saying this as a gamer and a Mass Effect fan, yes I am looking forward for the last part of the trilogy. Because I want to see how it ends. But I am a Mass Effect FAN.

Bioware (the company which developed the game) bets its reputation on this game. So it better be as good as they say it will be. Even if the game will not be better but will follow the same standards as Mass Effect 2 did then it will still be a success. But gamers these days need and want more than that. When they pay for a sequel they demand that it will be much better than the previous part of the series. Until now Bioware is always listening to its fans and always support the people who pay them. Let's hope they won't disappoint us.

Personally I believe the new Mass Effect 3 and at the same time the last part of the series will be more than epic. It will shake the foundations of the gaming world. Ok maybe I am exaggerating but I am sure, they will make sure that it will be a lifetime experience.

So what we know so far? After the events in Mass Effect 2 where they created more questions than answers, we already knew that there would be a massive Reaper attack. And all the Galactic Alliance was getting prepared for that. Among the things that we didn't know was where they would strike first and if the Alliance would have a chance to defend themselves and strike back.

The trailer of Mass Effect 3 comes to answer some of those questions. So we know that the reapers will strike at Earth and they will almost wipe out the entire population. We know that Earth, humans, and their defenses are no match against the Reapers. We know that the Alliance or Serberus under the command of Shepard will strike back. But still those information create even more answers.

Was Earth the first planet they hit or it was the last one? Did the Alliance and the rest of the races survived or humans are the last race alive? Who is helping Shepard to strike back? Will he manage to succeed? Questions, questions and more questions. I hope Bioware will give us some more content very soon.

Making a Mass Effect 3 Review is way too early and difficult given all the known information available by the company. The only thing we have in our hands is only a game trailer. But on the other hand why not try.

Dragon Quest IX: Simple But Effective

Dragon Quest has been a key player in the RPG world, often eclipse in the American market by Final Fantasy, Dragon Quest has not lost steam in the Japanese market and with good reason. Dragon Quest IX doesn't rely on ever growing damage points to make you feel like your characters are growing, it has a simplistic and effective class and skill system and it doesn't take itself too seriously.

All too often people associate strength in RPGs with the number of 9s you see pop up on the screen. DQ doesn't feel the need for that and I think to its advantage. Without the focus on how big the damage points are getting you have more time to focus on the strategy of your character, working within the limitations of your class. This gives Dragon Quest IX a challenging edge without taking away from playability. Sticking with defined classes with specific jobs to complete to aid your party is where Dragon Quest IX 'makes up for' not having 15 rows of 9s popping up.

The class/skill system set up within Dragon Quest IX is simple but extraordinarily in depth when put into a multi player environment. For Example, when partying alone as a Mage your immediate job is to deal as much damage to as many monsters as quickly as possible. For the obvious reason of your Mage getting one shotted into the ground. But once you enter the multi player realm of DQ IX, you find yourself needing to hone your attacks more as to not draw the attention of the monster, so your meat shield (Warrior) can draw in the damage. Although there is not an exorbitant amount of skills to learn the narrowed scope makes the game much smoother to play then similar RPGs. Another problem of similar RPGs is that all too often realism get substituted for fun.

DQ IX is a fun little game that anyone can enjoy, especially those who are children at heart. Most RPGs and games in general have gritty backdrops with quasi good characters and graphics that make it hard to distinguish whats real and whats not. Which is great, but sometime companies need to remember as tale can be epic but still fun. One of my favorite moments of Dragon Quest IX was when you fight the evil "Master of Nun" a transformation of "The Jack of Alltrades". Sure its not the greatest pun in the world but I chuckled and had fun with it 'nun' the less.

Overall DQ IX is a fantastic title for all and I suggest picking it up today. If you want a full synopsis of the game and all its features have a look at this link.

Free Games

If you are tired of paying money to play new video games at home to pass the time you may want to toss aside your remote and consider heading online to look at free games. Many avid video game players do not realize that there are millions of possibilities available online that mimic or are even the same as the games they pay to play. Within very little time you can be playing new free games online that are free to play at all times so that instead of spending your money you can start to enjoy games for free right away.

One of the perks of heading online to play is that you can choose from a wide variety of games that span just about every type of genre that is out there. For example, if you enjoy playing adventure type games you will find plenty of options. You will also find plenty of options when it comes to playing shooting, logic, puzzle, role playing, and sporting games as well as thousands of other types of games that are a blend of many different genres.

Another one of the perks of free games online is that they vary in length so that you can find the right games to play at any time during the day. If you are only trying to kill a few minutes before you leave for work you can play something that only last for five minutes or so, such as games that are based on the logic puzzles of classic games such as Tetris or the original DK arcade games. On the other hand, if you have more time on your hand then you can search out longer free games that are based on famous adventure or role playing games.

Those who love sports will also find that there are plenty of free games that allow you to practice and enjoy the competitive nature of your favorite sport even when the weather is not suitable. For example, if you love playing baseball but the weather is dark and damp you can head online to look for baseball games that will allow you to compete against others while having some fun and killing a few hours instead of sitting around disappointed in the weather.

Finally, if all of these reasons are not enough to get you to head online to look at free games there is one more factor that comes into play that may have you opening up your web browser: the community factor. Online there are large communities of people that play so when you head online to play you get the bonus of new competitors and plenty of new opportunities to meet people while playing who have the same interests as you who are willing to chat casually while playing free games on a regular basis.

A great place to play free games online is Gamesting.com. With many popular games to play updated every day.

Solutions To The Most Common Problems With The Xbox 360 Console

Your son drove you up the wall because he wanted the Xbox 360 console. Now he still drives you up the wall because the console has so many problems that every time he is about to cross an important level, his game is interrupted. Video games in general are known to have a number of problems, however this console has more than you can imagine. The red ring of death, the constant freeze ups and the overheating are the most common problems of Xbox 360 console that you can easily solve, if you know how.

So read up and learn how to solve these problems and make sure you teach your son how to solve them also, as they are bound to arise when you may be in the office, and you do not want to worry about the Red ring of death before a big presentation.

Overheating: If you keep the Xbox 360 console in a tight space, it is more likely to heat up. So make sure that you keep it in an area that is open. The problem can be solved in a number of ways indeed and the first precaution you need to take is proper ventilation.

The Xbox 360 produces a lot of heat, and if it is kept in a contained space, the heat will accumulate and that will make your console work slower and ultimately lead to the system freezing. The solution to overheating is to make sure there is enough space around the console for air circulation.

Freeze ups are a result of extreme overheating and you have to ensure that one does not lead to another on a regular basis by simply keeping it in an open space when you are using it. Also if your system is performing slower than usual, check the discs. Make sure they are damage free by taking care of them. If the discs are damaged, it could affect your whole system. The laser will not be able to read the damaged disc and your system may freeze up.

The best solution for freeze ups and overheating in general is to buy a cooling fan. There are external cooling fans especially designed for Xbox 360. It will solve the heat problems of the console and even prevent the red ring of death (also referred to as RRoD).

The red ring of death sounds like a serious problem and it is indeed serious. It is common in the first generation of Xbox 360 consoles and is a product of a number of design inefficiencies in the heatsink and the motherboard. The problem is that the motherboard gets so hot when you use it, that it actually starts melting causing the red ring of death. It is indicated by three red lights (or rings) near power button.

Since the red ring of death is a serious hardware problem, the best solution is to call the maintenance service, especially if it is still under warranty. You can also to fix the problem yourself with the common household tools. There are instructional videos you can find on Youtube and other video websites that will show you in detail how to disassemble the console and fix the issue. But I highly recommend that you call the proper maintenance service.

The console has many more problems, but these are the most common ones. Most of them can be avoided by simply providing enough space for air circulation and by using external cooling fans. If you want to pick the new Xbox 360console, you should ensure that you pick up the latest version with most commons problems have been fixed. Be sure you take care of your discs so as to ensure that your overall system is not further damaged.

You do not want your game to be interrupted over and over again when you or your kid are finally finishing a level or have been able to chase down the bad guy.

Cut the Rope for iPad: (Much) Better Than Angry Birds! Article Source: http://EzineArticles.com/5671142

Cut the rope is being hailed as the next Angry Birds, because it's so addictive and coincidentally, Chillingo, the same guys who hooked us to Angry Birds, are now getting millions of people to leave their dinners go cold and their bosses pulling their hairs out while they are cutting down candy for Om Nom, as the little green monster in the game is called. In order to do this you have to not only cut the ropes, but also use blow dryers, whoopee cushions and air bubbles to get the candy to Om Nam, who gets fussy when you take too long and heartbreakingly sad if you screw up.
Actually, I much prefer this game to Angry Birds, as it's a clever puzzle with enough gimmicks and action to keep me interested, but my 14-year old cousin was hugely entertained as well. Even my 70-year old mom, not a gaming fan at all, got it in one go, and has been playing for over an hour as we speak! Not a bad score for only $1.99 for the iPad version or $0.99 for the iPhone app.
And we're not the only ones enjoying Cut the rope: after only nine days the game was downloaded over 1 million times from the App Store. This makes it the quickest app ever to hit the million mark and it has even unseated Angry Birds as the most popular app game du jour. Which is great as I was getting just a teensy weensy bit bored by those birds and their precious eggs. There is definitely such a thing as too many birds in my book! Also, I think it's a shame when new, really good apps don't stand a chance because of a hype. Eve if someone worked very, very hard on it for over ten years, so I guess he deserves all his success. I wish I could build apps myself, actually, especially a really popular one, then I could finally buy that island in the Caribbean.
The guys who invented Cut the rope are probably checking out real estate as we speak, as the app is so immensely popular, there's already talk of an update, with 25 more levels of candy to feed the little monster and 11 new achievements. Don't tell my mom or I'll never see my iPad again;-)
We rate this app 4 out of 5 stars.

Rift Vs WoW - Why Rift Is So Much Better Article Source: http://EzineArticles.com/6185715

What you are about to read on Rift vs. WoW is bound to ruffle the feathers of many devoted World of Warcraft gamers. But it is just my opinion. Here is what the new game of Rift offers that is missing in WoW and why I like Rift so much.

Many WoW gamers will defend World of Warcraft because they are so invested, so committed -it has become like family. It is natural to defend something you have been a part of something for so long.

I will admit, WoW is a great and classic MMO. But over time the game has become boring.

Rift is the first game to really challenge WoW and give bored WoW gamers something NEW to try. Many will say that Rift is a WoW clone and I will agree there are similarities-but Rift offers much that is new and creative.

I guess it all comes down to why you play MMO's. I play for the creativity and the fun of becoming involved with and discovering things that are NEW.

Rift is full of New unique imagination.

Rift has amazing graphics.

There is a real interesting "Save the World" theme in Rift. There is no real evil side. The story line is very compelling. There are two factions and both want to save the world for their own reasons. It gives the game a very human quality.

The concept of the random rifts is an important, unique part of the game. These are rips or tears in time and space where monsters come out from. To be successful you must join with other players to defeat the monsters and it is lots of fun. It really gets players interacting with each other.

There is a ridiculous amount of possible customization combination's for characters.

The world Rift take place on is huge, several times larger than WoW, with much to explore.

There are many creative quests players can take part in.

And Rift is just getting started. As more and more players join improvements and changes will be made, the game will surely get even better.

So why do I like Rift vs. WoW? It is new, fresh, creative, unique, full of surprises AND I CAN'T WAIT TO LEVEL UP!

Leveling up is the only real problem with starting a new game. You always start out at zero and have to work to build up your character. But that is how you learn the game and our characters. You can always look for helpful guides and tips from more experienced players on the Internet to help you.

I was working at building up my character and it was getting rather tedious and then I came across this cool website designed to help Rift players. You might want to check it out. It has lots of helpful tips and guides to help you understand the game and teach you how to level up fast in Rift. Here's the site: http://www.UltimatePowerLeveling.com

Becoming a Video Game Tester Is Easy But You Need To Know This First.

What gamer doesn’t want to become a video game tester? It sounds like the perfect great job! Playing games all day, sitting at home and not having to drive through traffic to work each day. Whilst it sounds like there are no negatives, there are some important factors that you need to consider before you quit your job to become a tester.

Firstly, you must realize that the work can be long, repetitive and boring. When you first get the game to test, you may enjoy it. After all, it is a new game that no one has played yet. After the one hundredth time, it may no longer be fun and you may begin to hate the game! You may even be asked to test the game within one week.

Although it may seem very easy, going through the game over and over again to test each character and weapon can be very time consuming.

Each map must also be tested thoroughly for glitches. Each glitch or error must be jotted down in a detailed report. Every error or technical problem you encounter must be listed. The reason? If the developer made a mistake in a line of script, you must find it. This error is your responsibility to find and report! If it isn’t, the company may lose millions of dollars in returns.

As many companies are under pressure to get the video games out, you may experience short deadlines, resulting in long working hours for you. However, it isn’t all doom and gloom! If you love gaming and playing the latest games, then this line of work will probably suit you. Don’t expect to get the better games (think Call of Duty) early though. You need to get experience first.

Some of the things you must know before applying for a job include:

  •  You must be 18 years of age (mainly for tax purposes).

  •  A degree or education isn’t a prerequisite. Good writings skills will help though.

  •  Initial pay is between $10 and $30, although experience testers earn double this. You need to start with the smaller companies to gain experience first however. Build up your resume and the big checks will come.

  •  Getting work on the big games with the big companies is impossible for beginners. You need to be patient and get your experience up. Once you are seen to be reliable and have experience, the bigger companies may take you on. It is important to treat each test the same though!

  •  Most importantly, you need your own console to play! Stick to the console you feel most comfortable with initially, and then move on to other consoles.

With this in mind, you should be ready to begin your career in video game testing.

Finding tester jobs isn’t easy though. It can be a lot of work but I can help. Visit http://www.squidoo.com/become-a-video-games-tester to start your video game testing career TODAY!
